Doesn’t time pass quickly? It’s hard to believe we just wrapped up another successful Cloud Summit, this time in beautiful Boca Raton, FL. I want to thank all 1,408 of you who attended, choosing to spend your valuable time learning about the Infinite potential of cloud.
As I wrote in my last blog, and as I further shared with attendees, cloud is the next industrial revolution.
Throughout the Cloud Summit, we discussed the revolutionary technologies developing from the cloud, including blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT), and the ways these technologies are revolutionizing every aspect of our lives and creating new opportunities in the process.
Blockchain may be best known through Bitcoin cryptocurrency, but it represents much more potential, such as the ability to own your identity again, to shake up supply chain management and to simplify payment processing. Blockchain is changing the way we do business and making the business we do safer, faster, more transparent and more efficient.
I think of artificial intelligence as the stethoscope of the 21st century. And I have personal experience with this through a telemedicine service I use that leverages AI in an emerging way. I put a little telemetry pack on my finger that transmits my data to a remote diagnostic center, where it’s run through a powerful diagnostic algorithm and hundreds of millions of digitized medical records. Then I speak to a doctor by video chat who’s ready to give me a diagnosis. What’s the result? More time? Better health? Infinite potential?
And then there’s IoT. Consider the potential of self-driving vehicles. Americans spend 30 billion hours a year commuting in their cars. Could a self-driving car mean you get that time back? Could you spend it working with less time in the office? And what happens when we don’t need to own a car at all, and we simply share one? There will be half as many cars on the road. Parking garages become available real estate. Our carbon footprint is reduced. Auto accidents and fatalities are reduced.
The cloud ecosystem and its revolutionary technologies require a platform, and together, we have the opportunity to sell into this ecosystem.
I stated earlier that time passes quickly. In fact, time is the most valuable asset we have, and technologies and tools that buy us more of it will become priceless. Cloud is the ultimate resource-sharing tool to save time. Time you’re not waiting in a doctor’s office, time you’re not actively driving, time you can spend with family and friends. I enjoyed my time at Cloud Summit 2018 and hope you’ll put next year’s event on your calendars now.
