The Roads to New Growth and Digital Transformation
In its origins, Mobile World Congress (MWC) featured primarily smartphone débuts and telco presentations—but over the last several years, the trade show has evolved into something much bigger and more interesting. This year was officially the biggest in the event’s history, with over 108,000 visitors and 3,500 media and analyst attendees. Although enhancements in handset performance still played a central role, there were almost as many cars at MWC as there were new handsets. The underlying theme was how mobility is increasingly essential in our lives: at home, in the car and in industry.
The hottest topics in this year’s show were 5G and the Internet-of-Things (IoT). While it's still under debate whether 5G is just hype or not, 5G promises a blazing connection that smokes even your fastest home broadband connection, transforming the way we live by connecting everything around us. More importantly, 5G will unlock the potential of many other tech trends, including virtual reality and self-driving cars.
As far as IoT goes, nearly half (48.2%) of visitors and exhibitors at the event identified it as the biggest business opportunity of 2017, according to a MWC survey by GSMA. IoT was followed by mobile payments (14.5%) and artificial intelligence (14%). In terms of IoT opportunities, the survey highlighted the “opportunity for mobile operators to play a greater role in the IoT value chain than simply providing the connectivity.”
At Ingram Micro Cloud, we expect the next few years to show more businesses adapting telco providers' products, services and operations to incorporate IoT and mobile accessibility with cloud-based business applications. With their extensive experience in mobile connectivity and a broad customer-base, telco operators are moving more aggressively to digital transformation aligning with 5G network transformation and IoT. That’s why Ingram Micro Cloud unveiled our latest digital and cloud services platform at MWC 2017: the next generation of Odin Automation Premium.
To help telco customers simplify digital transformation with speed and scale, this next generation platform allows service providers to easily automate end-to-end services delivery, differentiate their offerings and digitally transform their business with speed and scale across IoT, cloud, XaaS and telco core services using a single platform. Significant new capabilities have been added to Odin Automation Premium to automate every aspect of cloud, IoT and XaaS services delivery management, including service orchestration and subscription management, cloud marketplace enablement, billing automation and reseller management, as well as data analytics. Service providers can also leverage the platform to seamlessly integrate, manage and monetize their own solutions to support accelerated digital innovation and transformation.
With the platform, service providers can capitalize on new revenue opportunities, differentiate their offerings, reduce customer churn and bring higher margin digital services to market faster. Together, Odin Automation Premium and Ingram Micro Cloud are helping companies achieve the new growth and digital transformation promised by many of the trends highlighted at MWC 2017.
General availability for the latest version of Ingram Micro’s next generation digital and cloud services platform is scheduled for Q2 2017. To learn more, please visit: http://www.ingrammicrocloud.com/odin-next-gen/
