Ingram Micro Cloud Summit 2018 is nearly upon us. And the excitement is building to a peak around our offices as we prepare for the trip to beautiful Boca Raton, Florida. To keep the momentum going, we’re asking one of our corporate executives to share insights on topics of interest to you, hear their perspective on the state of cloud, and learn what they think partners can take away from Cloud Summit 2018. Today, we’re chatting with Tarik Faouzi about products, partners and revolutions.
Q: The overarching theme for this year’s Ingram Micro Cloud Summit is Infinite. Can you tell us what Infinite means to you as we talk about cloud in general and Summit in particular?
A: The word infinite means no boundaries and that’s precisely what it means when we apply it to cloud computing. There are endless opportunities in the new IT world; we’re no longer constrained by physical barriers. In the cloud, physical becomes virtual, and the only boundaries are our own imaginations and ingenuity. From cloud storage, to cyber currency, to anything as a service, we’re able to use technology to reach beyond the borders into a realm of infinite possibilities. At Summit, we’ll be talking about, demonstrating and even debating the topic, and how partners can profit from the infinite ecosystem and platform Ingram Micro Cloud provides.
Q: At the 2017 Summit event, you led a session titled, “How We Are Enabling New Business Models for Our Partners.” If you were hosting the same session this year, what new enablers might you be speaking about?
A: The single biggest way we’re enabling our partners is through clear, easy, go-to-market strategies and tools that reduce their time to market. This also allows them to pivot in a new direction, if they start down a path that’s not comfortable for them. In the past, it took partners a lot of time, money, energy, and resources to begin selling a new cloud service. With our partner enablement strategies, we’re removing that overhead and allowing partners to jump into the game quickly and begin making money in the cloud.
Q: As VP of Cloud Product Management, you no doubt are dialed into upcoming product trends. Can you give us one to start thinking about?
A: Future-proofing is a term that many are using when talking about the design and development of new cloud products. While I’m not sure I believe that we can completely future-proof a product, there are design characteristics that we should be considering that will at least tomorrow-proof them. I talk a bit more about this in another recent blog.
Q: Ingram Micro Cloud claims the world’s largest cloud ecosystem. How do you design a single ecosystem that serves the needs of ISVs, MSPs, VARs, and Telcos?
A: Traditionally, vendors have had to support all sorts of channels—essentially becoming their own distributors—which required lots of API integration and channel management. This was time consuming, expensive, and not always successful. The Ingram Micro Cloud ecosystem is helping by becoming the single integration and distribution point. With our unique platform that supports all channel types across a global footprint, vendors can now reach all end customers through one integration point. We’re bringing the channel together on common ground. This opens a floodgate of opportunities for ISVs, MSPs, VARs, and Telcos. It’s really an industry game changer.
Q: If Cloud is the current technological revolution, do you care to speculate on what the next one might be?
A: I actually don’t think cloud is a revolution. I think it’s part of an ongoing evolutionary cycle. However, cloud is currently ushering in a new era of the internet of things (IoT) and it is revolutionary. IoT will transform the way we all work and live. We will be covering IoT, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and 5G—their impacts, significance and market value to partners as part of our Infinite Possibilities track at Cloud Summit.
