The Top 5 CloudTalk Blogs of 2013

As 2013 comes to a close, I thought it would be appropriate to share a list of the top 5 most popular CloudTalk blog articles for the year as well as a few comments about each article. Without further ado, let the countdown begin:

5. 4 Ways Ingram Micro Can Help Grow Your Cloud Practice
This blog was a summary of a keynote message from Renée Bergeron, vice president of managed services and cloud computing at Ingram Micro North America. During her presentation, she shared a couple of memorable statistics about the growing cloud market, and she talked about four new services Ingram Micro offered that could help resellers grow their revenue in this space, including: cloud telecom services, selling HaaS (Hardware as a Service), a new marketing and partner enablement program called “Seeding the Cloud,” and IM Link, a new all-in-one professional services delivery network and online portal designed exclusively for channel partners in North America who want to expand their existing skill sets and capabilities.

4. Why Now Is The Right Time To Sell IaaS and PaaS
I wrote this article after coming across research from Market Monitor, a service of 451 Research, which predicted Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) will attain a 41% CAGR through 2016, generating 24% of total cloud revenue. The next highest cloud growth service, according to the study, will be Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), which is predicted to reach 37% CAGR through 2016, generating 51% of cloud revenue. I definitely see these two topics being big winners in 2014 as well.

3. Why 41% Of Your Customers’ IT Budgets Are Going To Your Competitors
This article was based on a session I attended at the Cloud Summit, where Gartner analyst Tiffani Bova really hit home the point that the biggest problem your salespeople are facing has less to do with what they’re selling and how they’re selling, but who they’re selling to. Unlike in the past when IT owned the buying decision, 41% of spending now comes from outside the IT department, according to Gartner’s research.

2. 4 Reasons To Put Cloud Summit 2014 In Your Plans Today
The fact that three out of the top five CloudTalk blog articles for 2013 were either directly about or inspired by the Cloud Summit says a lot about the value Ingram partners get from this event. The 2013 Cloud Summit was packed with educational sessions from top analysts, vendors, and channel companies and next year’s show is gearing up to be another invaluable resource for VARs, MSPs, and CSPs looking to break into the cloud market or to expand their existing cloud practices.

1. Should IP Video Storage Be Your Next Cloud Service?
The top blog article for 2013 was based on a study I came across from Homeland Security Research, which predicted global intelligent video surveillance (IVS) and video analytics (VA) industry revenues totaled $13.5 billion in 2012 and are estimated to reach $39 billion in 2020. This topic reminded me of another study I read more recently from the 2112 Group and Intronis, which is the 2013 State of Cloud Backup Study. A couple of highlights from the study reveal that the cloud storage market will reach $46.8 billion by 2018 and 56% of IT professionals who responded to the survey indicated that backup and recovery is their bestselling cloud service. It only makes sense then that expanding your current backup and recovery services to include IP video storage could take your revenue new heights.
